Religious Education Programming
In most Sunday schools, children are divided by age and taught what is the right way to think about religion and the belief system of the church. We at Bradford Community Church UU believe it is our responsibility to educate the children, youth, and visitors of our congregation not just about the beliefs of Unitarian Universalism, but also the beliefs of other religions and how to live our lives in reflection of our seven principles. We are a liberal religion and encourage discussion with and among our children to develop a strong belief system that is unique to themselves. The younger children often associate the principles with he colors of the rainbow, each color standing for a different principle.
For the 2018-2019 school year we'll be using a theme-based ministry alongside Spirit Play in our One Room Schoolhouse for grade Pre-K to 5th. Spirit Play is a Montessori-style program developed by Nita Penfold specifically for Unitarian Universalist congregations. It is a story-based model where the lesson begins with an interactive story and is followed by "wondering" questions. The children will then do hands-on activities based on the theme. We'll also be discussing a world religion each month which will tie into the theme. Classes run from September 9th, 2018 to June 9th, 2019. If you have are interested in enrolling a child, please attend church and see the Welcome Desk for the required paperwork or contact Krystal at [email protected] right away. |
